How to Keep Customers Informed of Your Trading Status

Navigating the unprecedented world of COVID-19 is extremely challenging for all businesses. Depending on where you’re located, restrictions may have halted your operations completely; or you may still be in a position to operate, albeit under considerable restrictions.

Whichever one it is, it’s vital to make sure your customers - both existing and potential - are aware of your trading status. And in the light of the ongoing changes with social distancing rules, and the tightening and easing of government restrictions, this will continue to be important.

Let’s take a look at some things to consider so your customers can stay up to date with your business.

Update Google My Business Page

When people have a question, google usually has the answers. And during these times there are many questions that need to be answered. So, when it comes to customers wondering if their favourite store is open or closed, it’s likely they will turn to Google.

With this in mind, the first change you need to make is updating your Google My Business page with your opening hours. Make sure any changes to your business are posted on this page, like opening hours and address.

You can also use Google My Business to inform customers of what capacity you are open such as dine-in, takeaway or delivery.

Facebook: Pinned posts & About your Business

Pin a comment at the top of your Facebook that contains your current operating status. It’s important to make sure your customers know what's going on with your business, no matter the avenue they search.

Of course, this doesn’t mean you want to be reposting the same content every week to make sure it stays in an easy to view place. Instead, with Facebook, create a guiding post and pin this to the top of your page. The post will then stay right at the forefront of your page, and your audience will be able to easily find the information they require.

It is also advisable to update your opening hours on the "About Us" section of Facebook. When people search your business, they will be able to automatically see whether you're currently open. If you're not currently open, it'll inform them of the next time you are.

Instagram: Bio and Stories

Similarly on Instagram, updating your bio with your hours and operational status will be just as effective to reach the Instagram crowd.

Another great way to continually reach your customers with your details is via Instagram stories. Statistics show that Instagram stories have over 300 million daily active users, and connecting with your followers by consistently posting on stories impacts how your posts perform in the algorithm.

Twitter

If you have a Twitter account, make sure you update your business’ bio with your new details. Then create a guiding post with the relative details of your operating status. Once posted, pin it to your profile so it will continue to be the top post on your profile. Whenever there is an update, simply create a new post and pin that one.

Email Marketing

If you have a database of your customers that you generally use for loyalty, then sending out a mass email with your business updates is a great way to reach out and keep your customers informed. This is the perfect opportunity to let them know you're still operating, while offering updates on your opening hours changes and any offers or promotions you’re running.
