Pre-authorisation and bar tabs are now available for the UK
Pre-authorisation and bar tabs are now available for Epos Now Payments customers in the UK.
Pre-authorisation (also known as pre-auths) allows businesses to temporarily ‘hold’ an amount of money from the customer’s credit or debit card as a form of assurance that there are enough funds to cover the total balance owed. Once the total balance is authorised for a transaction, the held amount is deducted from the total.
Pre-auths are particularly helpful for bars and restaurants because it.
- Limits fraud from stolen or fake cards
- Pre-authorized card helps prevent “insufficient funds” or “I can’t pay” situations
- Increases the pace of service as the card is securely saved and the transaction can be closed with one tap
Epos Now Payments customers can enable pre-auths and set up their default pre-auth amount in the Back Office. Once set up is complete, simply tap, swipe or dip your card to open up a bar tab with a secure pre-auth amount.

Kitchen Display System refreshed
Epos Now's Kitchen Display System has had a refresh to include key features that help optimise kitchens and delivery orders with accuracy, every time.
The Kitchen Display System helps to:
- Manage your kitchen workflow - tick off, recall and re-order tickets with a single touch
- Customise your ticket layout, timers and unique audio alerts to stay on top of orders
- Organise orders by course, table or in-time orders and serve customers with ease using our new digital bump bar
- Minimise wastage and complete multiple orders at speed with Expeditor view

Fix for updating table plans on multiple tills
Merchants can now edit table plans on multiple tills at the same time without having syncing issues.
Improved Android accessories set up wizard
We have dramatically improved the setup wizard for our countertop and mobile Android device accessories. The wizard will now make it easier for customers to self-serve and set up the following devices*:
- Cash drawer
- Scanners (USB, Wireless with dongle, Bluetooth)
- Mag swipe card readers
- Customer display pole (integrated and standalone USB)
After the primary device is set up successfully, the wizard will help you set up additional compatible accessories.
If customers are still having issues during setup, they will be presented with an option to access relevant support articles through a QR code.
*Over the next few releases, we will be updating the wizard for additional accessories.
Simpler first-time till login experience tablets and iPads not provided by Epos Now
Previously, merchants who used tablets and or iPads that weren't provided by Epos Now had to select what kind of device they were using when opening the till app for the first time after downloading it from the Google Play store or the iOS App Store.
We have decided to remove this step and prompt the login screen right away to make the setup experience easier.
Unique invoice numbers compliant with Spanish fiscal laws
Sequential invoice numbers are now in Beta, ready to be integrated into receipts for merchants in Spain. This means that all transactions will now have a unique sequential invoice number to ensure merchants comply with local fiscal reporting regulations.
Please note: this is currently only ready for receipts on the till and not complex invoices in the Back Office.

Customers can now refer industry peers to Epos Now through the Referral Scheme.
