Keeping track of inventory was a struggle
When Jackie Palmer first launched her Caribbean grocery store in Virginia, she was having a lot of trouble keeping track of her stock.
She used a traditional, outdated till system at first. The old system made it very difficult to keep track of what she had in stock and what needed to be reordered. This led to a lot of wasted time and money, as she often had to do manual inventory checks, which were both time-consuming and prone to error. Her team often had to sift through old receipts to try and work out what had been sold, which was a massive hassle.
"It was a real nightmare," Jackie says. "I felt like I was always playing catch-up, and I was never really sure what I had in stock. This made it hard to plan ahead, and often we'd end up losing money because we had to throw out food that had gone bad or miss out on sales because we didn't have the right products in stock. It was just a pain," she continued. "I'm glad those days are behind us."
