What is EBT, and how is it different from SNAP?
Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) is the card-based system used to access benefits. SNAP provides food benefits for eligible purchases. EBT Cash is a separate benefit type with different rules. Smart EBT Checkout keeps those payment groups distinct.
Can a customer pay with EBT and another payment method?
Yes. Smart EBT Checkout organizes the basket using your product eligibility settings. Your cashier follows the EBT payment flow, then collects any remaining payment by another supported method, such as card or cash.
Do I need Epos Now Payments?
Yes. This integrated EBT checkout is for US retailers using Epos Now Payments. Talk to our team to confirm availability, compatible equipment and the setup for your store.
Does Epos Now get my store SNAP authorized?
No. USDA Food and Nutrition Service is the only body that can authorize a store to accept SNAP. You apply directly with FNS. Your POS setup does not replace that authorization, and retailers remain responsible for following the program rules.
